    training academy

well, i applied to TDCJ in october and was told i would hear back within 45 days. several calls later and hearing "your application is being processed", i decided to give up lol i got a call last week for a job offer and i start the academy in plainview next week. i havent exercised in a few years and after reading the PAT list i figured it shouldnt be too hard, except i cant really do too many push ups... everything else = cake. am i going to get marked off if i cant complete my push ups? what do i expect from the academy? im not looking forward to being away from my family for so long because we live pretty far away and might not be able to make it home every weekend. im sending my prayers up that there will be someone there that lives in this region i can carpool with and help with gas. ive heard the classes go from around 7am- 7 or 8 each evening but have also heard you are done by 6. ???? do you pt when you get up then go back and shower for class? any info would help alot. i like to be prepared and right now im kind of clueless.

    Re: training academy

Physically you should be fine. The PAT doesn't count points off for not completing an event, rather, you get points for the events that you do complete or are able to do. As far as the training schedule it all depends on your Academy, the other classes in the Academy, and your Instructors. Some are 630AM-330PM, 700AM-4PM and so on. You do DT/PT but not every day. You'll generally work out a couple of hours a day two or three days a week. Hope this answers your questions. Good luck. And be warned, the first couple of days you spend doing HR paperwork you'll want to claw your eyes out, it's that boring.
