How does the geo group detention officers get paid, weekly, biweekly or monthly?
Okay cool! I go there on monday for my training for a detention officer. whats the diffirence between their detention and correctional positions? i noticed the detention pays more than the correctional.
Congratulations chrisg_1201. Hope everything goes well.
Thanks! It's a start somewhere, you know. I had a screening for TDCJ on APRIL 19 but im going to go ahead and accept this position just incase i dont get the one at TDCJ. I just hope im making the right decision lol.
I'm not sure what the difference is between Detention Officer (DO) and Correctional Officer (CO). It may have something to do with the facility, I know that Arora Colorado calls thier staff DO's. That facility is a Federal ICE facility. At my facilty our staff are CO's. The pay also depends on the contract. A federal contract is going to pay more then what the State contract pays. Most of the time a Federal contract is better because the Federal contracts have it set where the staff get a raise each year if the feds get a raise.
Chrisg welcome to the company and family. Do not let people tell you that you have made a mistake by working for a Private prison. Geo is a great company to work for. I just started my 3rd year with the company. I am currently a Lieutenant at my facility. Granted I have prior corrections experience (worked for TDCJ for 2 1/2 years), and I also have some Law Enforcement experience.
What facility are you going to be working at?
If you have not done orintation yet you will do it after your training is over or you should it depends on the facility you work for as to the training you need (depneds on the contract). Orintaiton is 2 full weeks. The worst part of orintation is the videos that you are required to watch. Also when setting up your benifits make sure to take the short term and long term disability. It may not seem like a big thing but trust me it is. The first 4 years of your carrerr you will get about 11 days of Paid Time Off (PTO). You are eligable to use PTO after being employeed for 90 days. PTO is both vacation and sick leave. Some employees like the way PTO is set up and some hate it. The ones who hate it are the ones who call in all the time.
If you have any questions about the company PM me and I will answer them.
Once again welcome to the team.
Thanks man! it means a lot to me. I wanted to become a CO or a DO so bad but the only thing was holding me back was me not having a High School diploma. I just recently obtain mines from a little academy here in san antonio,tx. so now doors are opening up for me. As for the facility I will be working at is in Pearsall,Tx. Its about 50 something min away, not to bad of a drive for me. Its crazy how it happend. I sent my resume and she contacted me really fast. I dont have experience but what I was doing before that at my last job kind of counts. I was a U.A Tech for people on probation and federal probation,so I think thats what got me through the door. But yea, Im very excited about monday.
Oh...what does Geo Group uniforms look like?
Probably similar to this?
But, that may vary by contract too. What's the starting pay at George Strait's hometown?
"Give me six lines written by the most honorable of men, and I will find an excuse in them to hang him."
"A fish rots from the head down."
Some forgotten state prison administrator in reference to poorly led prison agencies.
The Bald Man and the Fly
There was once a Bald Man who sat down after work on a hot
summer's day. A Fly came up and kept buzzing about his bald pate,
and stinging him from time to time. The Man aimed a blow at his
little enemy, but his palm came on his head instead;
again the Fly tormented him, but this time the Man was wiser and
"You will only injure yourself if you
take notice of despicable enemies."
I've heard of some BOP officers who went to GEO. Does GEO pay you depending on your experience?
