NCDOC: Employment Time Frame From Start to Finish

    To all applicants:
    1. From the day the application submission before receiving the letter to be scheduled for TABE and COVT - 1 Month and couple of days.
    2. After receiving the letter DOC normally schedules the TABE and COVT and wait time before testing is- 2 Weeks
    3. After taking the TABE and COVT and waiting for the test results- 1 Week
    4. Being scheduled for an interview after passing the TABE and COVT- 1 day to 6 Months depending on the prison
    5. Getting the conditional offer (COE) from the prison you interviewed from Right after the interview you can receive COE until 2.5 Months tops waiting to receive it
    6. Scheduling for medical physical and TB test- After interview if you’re lucky until up 8 days then the medical form expires from the prison unless the medical facility extends it.
    7. TB results unless you have taken one within the 12 Months prior to application have to show proof of results to medical facility. Waiting time- 3 days
    8. Taking the results of your physical and TB test in sealed envelope and scheduled appointment to regional office depends on prison facility sending your paperwork to the background investigator waiting time 1 Week to 3 Weeks
    9. Regional background investigator calling you to schedule you to bring the sealed medical envelope and all the additional forms (example, High school diploma, social security, and driver’s license, etc.) And other forms given to you at the prison facility where you received the COE- 1 Week to 2 Weeks
    10. On same day the background investigator schedules you and finishes processing all the information and taking your fingerprints, and you taking psychological personality assessment, and drug test at lab corps all the same day-
    • 1 to 2 days to receive your drug test results from lab corps
    • 8 to 14 days to receive psychological assessment results from regional office
    • Regional office giving approval to hire to prison facility you interviewed at same 2 Weeks after receiving the psychological results
    • Prison facility calling you to give you start date 1 Week to 1 Month depending on prison facility.
Note: After completing all the processing at the regional employment office it can take up to a month before you start working at a prison facility.
Now if you do the math, you can estimate how long it takes from the day you first put in your application at the regional office until your first start date at a prison facility.
