Posted: Fri 9:32 PM, Sep 13, 2013 BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institute near Ashland, along with an inmate and the inmate's girlfriend, are accused of conspiring to bring marijuana, tobacco and other prohibited items into prison, according to information released by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Correctional officer James S. Lewis, 45, of Ironton, Ohio; inmate Gary Musick, 32, of Newport, Tenn.; and Musick's girlfriend, Cindy Gates, 23, also of Newport, are all charged with conspiring to introduce marijuana, tobacco and other prohibited items into the prison.

Musick also was indicted for possession of contraband in prison, and the indictment accuses Lewis of receiving a bribe as a public official.

The alleged conspiracy lasted from December 2010 to March 2012.

The indictment alleges Musick sold prohibited items to other inmates in exchange for stamps.

Lewis is scheduled to appear Sept. 26 in federal court in Ashland.

Court dates for Musick and Gates have not been determined yet.

If convicted, Lewis faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, Musick faces up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine, and Gates faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
