    New boots

    Hi Everybody-

I am trying to buy a new pair of boots for work and I really would like to try somwthing other than Magnums. The last pair of Magnums I had the side zipper broke and the always make my feet sweat. I was thinking about a pair of ethier Belleville boots or maybe 511 boots.

I am looking for sugestions, but ultimately what I need is comfort and durability and it would be MUCH BETTER if I could pass through the metal detector without taking off these boots...I am hoping to get some good advice from the vets on this board, thanks in advance!

    Re: New boots

Don't buy any thing online. After your purchase take them to work (in the box not on feet) and walk through the metal detector, because some say "our boots are metal detector friendly" and they are not. After that test then if you like the look and feel of them then you wear them to work. Just my experience with the boot industry and not so friendly metal detector. Our's (metal detector) is a bit moody at times, I think, because some days it will go off on some thing and then the next time it won't on same item. Wierd huh???

I like Bates but every foot is different. I currently own a pair of the Bellevilles and I find them a bit on the heavy side and not comfort for walking in 8hrs. They do not clear the metal detector. I have had Danners and all sorts of other boots. Here is my favorite right now. There is always something better to come. I am not endorsing Bas Pro but this just happens to be a pic of these particular boots. Bates DuraShocks Ultra-Lite Tactical Sport 5'' Work Boots for Men

Oakleys ROCK!!! they run large go 1/2 to full size smaller, they aren't slip resistant, but they are soooo comfy and they give 50% discount to law enforcement usstandardissue.com

I wear Bates 9" Gore-tex insulated side zips.. Last about 2 years on this last pair.. would have been longer but ol' jake got pissed at me one night for leaving them on the floor and the top rim is a lil chewed... helped the wear and tear a lil.

    Re: New boots

I LOVE my Danner Blackhawks! (a 6-in all leather version of their "Acadia") They are exepensive, and heavy but they clear our metal detector and are the most comfortable and supportive boots I've ever had.

    My boot resume........

    (1) Rocky 911 athletic quarter boots. (I think they are discontinued) They were great, but the side would always blow out after about a year and a half. (I have wide feet)

    (2) Hi-Tek Magnum quarter boots. This was in the early 90's so it was a "Newer Generation". I didn't like them at all. The footbed was hard, and they were just plain uncomfortabe to me. They may be better these days....don't know, never got another pair.

    (3) Bates "Enforcers". Loved 'em. Big, chunky lookin boot with an outsole that looked like giant molar teeth! Looked tough, but they changed the design several years ago......they don't look as cool these days.

    (4) 5.11 tactical quarter boot. They were just okay in my book. Some folks rave about 'em.......but they weren't anything special to my sensitive feet.

    (5) Ridge Tac-lite. These boots started popping up all over the compound around 2002 or so. Nice looking boot with an air bubble in the heel 'a-la Nike Air.
Well.....they need to steal some plans from Nike or something. They sucked. Developed Plantar Fa****is (sp) after wearing for about 6 months. Never had it before.......never since......go figure.

    (6) Converse "stealth" quarter boot. Light and comfortable. I liked 'em.

But nothing comes close to my Dannar's in my book.
