What is a blog, anyway?

OK, I'll admit it - as much as I like technology and spend my days working with sophisticated software, I am not exactly sure about what a blog is. Wikipedia defines it as, "A blog (a blend of the term web log)[1] is a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog." So I thought I would try my hand... Er, my keyboard? Besides, I have seen comments that seem to indicate that po.org will give you more points if you blog, so here goes!
When I log into PO.org, usually at some point I will go to the main forum page, scroll to the bottom and see if "today" happens to be a day that someone I "recognize" is having a birthday. If so, I will send them brief birthday wishes. It's just a way that I feel more connected with the people I know on here. I happened to notice that today was someone's birthday. Now I haven't "talked" to this person, but they seem to have a good sense of humor and they have had me laughing a couple times, so I posted a birthday wish on their visitor message page. But I digress. This person happened to turn 32 today. That just seems so young to me, though I recently turned 41, which isn't *really* considered old. And in my wish for him, I called him "young'un". Then I went to see what's new in the forums, and it hit me. That young man who turned 32... is the same age as my husband of nearly five years. OK, quit laughing! (Gools, I am talking to you!) :-) Shortly after we announced our engagement, I heard the slang term "cougar". I don't know what makes me more self-conscious - the fact that when I looked it up on the web that there is actually a term for "a woman 7 years or more older than her husband" or that fact that I fit the description! So, who out there has been in a similar situation, and do you really care what others think? Blogging minds want to know!

Just browsing and seen these comments that's why I'm so late in my response. Sis, don't feel bad I'm only 41 also. BigKey must be going thru a 'granny' complex. LOL Anyway, I'd love to be in 'cougar' relationship. I am kinda. My girl is roughly a little more than a year older than me, sadly not 7 or more. As for the blogging, I start off with something to say, and in my mind it is going to longer than what I think a normal post should be. That's why I put my comments in the blog section.

Enroute to the joint, I travel thru a National Wildlife Refuge. They have a sign announcing upcoming events and what not for schools and wannabe forestery people. Today, I see 'Cougar Program' yadda, yadda, yadda. I busted up @ 5 in the am. I'm like Sis is teaching a class? I wonder how many will attend? LOL

"RRrooowwwr"! Hahaha! I guess BigKey hasn't seen the "granny" comment yet... I am positive she will have some "SORT" of response! I'm glad I made ya laugh at 5:am! Cougar classes... :-) Wonder if the curriculum would include pouncing, etc?
Hey, want to know another fun fact? Before I met my husband, I broke up with the guy I was dating - I thought he was too young for me. Turns out the man I married is a year younger than the prior boyfriend was! I told my husband it was a good thing that he is going prematurely bald, or I probably would not have been interested!

HEY! I'm happy with my ol' Grannytude! LOL I even have the book with the poem...which I bought ...about 20 years ago....

    ---------------
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other peoples' gardens
    And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickles for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Whew! My wife's six years older than me. We just barely made it under the wire or she'd be a cougar, too.
