What is a blog, anyway?

OK, I'll admit it - as much as I like technology and spend my days working with sophisticated software, I am not exactly sure about what a blog is. Wikipedia defines it as, "A blog (a blend of the term web log)[1] is a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog." So I thought I would try my hand... Er, my keyboard? Besides, I have seen comments that seem to indicate that po.org will give you more points if you blog, so here goes!
When I log into PO.org, usually at some point I will go to the main forum page, scroll to the bottom and see if "today" happens to be a day that someone I "recognize" is having a birthday. If so, I will send them brief birthday wishes. It's just a way that I feel more connected with the people I know on here. I happened to notice that today was someone's birthday. Now I haven't "talked" to this person, but they seem to have a good sense of humor and they have had me laughing a couple times, so I posted a birthday wish on their visitor message page. But I digress. This person happened to turn 32 today. That just seems so young to me, though I recently turned 41, which isn't *really* considered old. And in my wish for him, I called him "young'un". Then I went to see what's new in the forums, and it hit me. That young man who turned 32... is the same age as my husband of nearly five years. OK, quit laughing! (Gools, I am talking to you!) :-) Shortly after we announced our engagement, I heard the slang term "cougar". I don't know what makes me more self-conscious - the fact that when I looked it up on the web that there is actually a term for "a woman 7 years or more older than her husband" or that fact that I fit the description! So, who out there has been in a similar situation, and do you really care what others think? Blogging minds want to know!
