    Age requirements?

Can any of my BOP cousins tell me why the BOP will not hire anyone over 37yoa????
I was hoping that if my state DOC totally fell apart that I might apply at BOP with my 18 years of corrections experience 14 months as a sergeant and 7 years of army national guard I think I would make an outstanding BOP Officer, but to bad that I am 47yoa, so I'm to old. This almost seems like age discrimination to me.

All federal agencies are also exempted from the age discrimination federal statutes.

I could be wrong, but i think that applies to veterans only.

I believe the age restriction does NOT apply for positions in the Regions or Central Office.

If you are looking for federal employment have you tried USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site ? You can search for a variety of positions that do not have the age restriction.

One of our nurse practitioners just turned 64. Generally, age is only waived for medical specialists and chaplains.

Yes, those are not law enforcement positions, and they do not share our retirement system.

People who transfer to those positions can retain LE retirement if they have worked a certain number of years in an LE position, but I don't know the details. And, people who start in non-LE can also transfer over to LE, but I don't know about the age restrictions on that.
Opinions expressed by this writer are those of the author and do not necessarily represent the opinions of the author's employer, any government agency, nor anyone else with a lick of sense. Any opinions held in common with any of the above are merely coincidental and should be assumed as evidence that both parties are wrong.
